Size-based reference, not an equivalent complete-system quote
Compared with American Starlight Ceilings’ published $77/sq. ft. installed rate applied to the same illuminated ceiling area. Both prices include installation and light engines. Our custom built-in ceiling and their installed panel system use different construction and installation methods, so this is a same-area pricing benchmark, not a claim that the products are identical. Freight, tax and travel are excluded from this price comparison.

Technical details and sources
Construction and installation. StarLight builds each ceiling into the room's architecture; the provider describes acoustic panels fitted to a grid or surface-mounted. Controls, features and project assumptions also differ between providers.
What each price covers. Every StarLight residential starting price includes acoustic-board construction, RGBW, twinkle, the appropriately sized standard light engine system and professional installation. The provider’s installation page excludes freight, grid work, ceiling outlets and taxes, and lists color changing and custom effects as extras.
Travel and taxes. StarLight travel, applicable taxes and location-specific costs are itemized in your quote; the provider advertises no travel charge.
How the reference is calculated. The provider’s published $77/sq. ft. installed rate is applied to the same illuminated ceiling area; for example, 36 sq. ft. × $77 = $2,772. These are rate × area references, not project quotes or guaranteed savings.
Their homepage says “delivered,” but their DIY page separately excludes freight, as do their services and installation pages, so their delivery should not be assumed free. Confirm freight with the provider.

A custom-built star panel, made for your room
A home starlight ceiling can be quoted as a panel designed around your room's dimensions. Fiber count, star layout, artwork, mounting, halo lighting, driver equipment, and control method are all customized for your room, with availability and final pricing confirmed in your quote.
Designed
We map your ceiling, plan the star layout, and design any custom artwork — constellations, galaxies, or something personal.
Hand-built
Each fiber is threaded by hand into the panel. Denser clusters build Milky Way bands; fine lines trace shapes and figures.
Installation plan
Mounting, driver placement, wiring, room access, and finish details are defined in the quote.
Two Premium Residential Solutions

Craftsmanship & Construction
What custom-built actually means

Custom structural framing
A fabricated frame sized to your exact dimensions and layout.
Structural anchoring
Professionally fastened to ceiling framing, not just drywall.
Fabric alignment
Suede-style fabric stretched with consistent nap orientation across the field.
Concealed wiring
Fiber and low-voltage runs hidden within the build.
Planned access
Maintenance access designed in before fabrication begins.
Clean finished edges
Tight returns and transitions at walls, soffits and trim.
Engine placement
Light engines located for ventilation, quiet operation and reach.
Room-specific layout
Shaped around fixtures, vents, angles and circular geometry.
Virtually seamless
Minimal visible transitions for one continuous night sky.
Behind the Build
Real work in progress from StarLight projects: a ceiling prepared with mounting points and routed wiring, and a curved star-field section lit up before installation.

Construction Profiles
Acoustic construction, included in every room
Premium acoustic board — no upcharge
Acoustic-board construction is included in every residential custom-built ceiling, from kids' rooms and bedrooms to game rooms and home theaters. All published base prices include it.
3-Inch Acoustic Construction
Our standard home-theater packages use this acoustic-board profile. Other rooms use the approved acoustic profile appropriate to the build; final depth and material specifications are confirmed with your design. Acoustic construction remains included, whatever the room.
We do not publish NRC ratings or certified absorption figures. Material specifications are provided for your selected build.
Safety & Serviceability
Engineered to be lived under — and looked after
- Proper circuit protection and fusing
- Concealed, protected wiring
- Appropriate low-voltage lighting components where applicable
- Light engines kept accessible
- Professionally planned mounting
- Materials selected with applicable fire-safety requirements in mind
- Serviceable without dismantling the finished ceiling
No ceiling is fireproof or earthquake-proof, and we do not describe ours that way. Where your project needs documentation for a specific code or material requirement, we confirm it before production.
Where We Install
Starlight ceiling ideas for four room types

Bedroom Ceilings
Fall asleep under your own private night sky. - Custom constellation and zodiac layouts
- Equipment specifications confirmed in your quote

Game Room Ceilings

- Full RGB color-changing star fields
- Shooting-star and twinkle effects
- Optional ambient edge lighting to match your battle station
